USERS OF THE SOCIAL NETWORKING site Facebook know that you can send your friends “gifts,” which can be anything from flowers for your birthday to “Friday the 13th” hockey masks (for heaven knows what reason). Now, thanks to Facebook member Darlene Koenig, journalists can send each other and their friends “Worthless Gifts for Print News Veterans.”
Koenig, the owner of Koenig Educational Media in Texas and a former manager of education programs at USA Today, created an inventory that includes 26 items, including a UPI teletype machine, border tape (likely stuck to your shoe), a photo desk loupe, yellowed clips from the morgue, a pica stick (with “Do Not Take” on the back) and of course, tons of newsprint. *
