The Rocky Mountain News and Seattle Post-Intelligencer closed shop within three weeks of each other, ending nearly 300 combined years of newspapering

The Seattle Times The Post-Intelligencer's JOA partner reacted to the closing with a newsy front page featuring the famous globe as well as glimpses of famous P-I covers of the past.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer The commemorative final cover was a poster featuring the 30-foot globe that sits atop the paper's headquarters. The globe, a Seattle icon, has spun atop the building for more than 50 years and features the words “It's in the P-I.” The P-I now publishes only online.

Rocky Mountain News
When news broke on Thursday that the Rocky's presses would roll for the final time the next day, the paper reacted with a typical newsy front page, with the kind of photojournalism that set the publication apart from many others in the country. The final front page of the Rocky Mountain News was handled with the kind of class that its staff had become known for. The cover was a wraparound commemorative that featured a reprint of the first edition from 1859 — the Rocky stopped production just short of its 150th birthday. And the back of the tab wrap was just as classy — a list of all the newsroom's staff on the final day.
