ASNE PRESIDENT GILBERT BAILON, has been named editorial page editor of the St. Louis (Mo.) Post-Dispatch. He leaves the position of publisher and editor of Al Día, a Spanish-language daily owned by The Dallas Morning News. He was executive editor of the Morning News from 1998 to 2003.
Rick Rodriguez, 2005-06 ASNE president and executive editor of The Sacramento (Calif.) Bee has resigned and plans to take a couple of months off before returning as a consultant to McClatchy's vice president for news. Rodriguez joined McClatchy in 1979 as a political reporter and editorial writer before being named managing editor of the Bee in 1993. He was promoted to executive editor in 1998. Managing Editor Joyce Terhaar will oversee the newspaper's editorial operations until a successor is named.
Terry Horne has been named publisher of The Orange County Register, Santa Ana, Calif. He formerly worked for the Easy Valley Tribune in Mesa and The Arizona Republic, Phoenix. He succeeds N. Christian Anderson III, who was president of ASNE in 1999-2000.
Laura Hollingsworth has been named publisher of The Des Moines (Iowa) Register where she served as general manager since 2005. She succeeds Mary Stier.
Steve B. Smith has been named vice president of community newspapers for the California Newspapers Partnerships for the California Newspapers Partnerships Northern California region. He formerly worked for Media General's North Carolina Media Group.

Derek Osenenko has been named executive editor of The Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y. He had served as editor of Gannett News Service in McLean, Va., and succeeds Mike Levine, a longtime Record columnist and editor who died in January.
John McKeon has been named president and general manager of The Dallas Morning News. He had served as president, chief executive officer and publisher of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group.
Bart Smith has been appointed publisher of the Greeley (Colo.) Tribune. Smith had been editor of The News-Review in Roseburg, Ore.
Gene Williams has been named executive editor of The Star Press in Muncie, Ind. He recently served as managing editor of news and new media at the Cape Cod Times in Hyannis, Mass.
Jonathan Segal has been appointed president of Freedom Newspapers, a combination of the previous Freedom Orange County and Freedom Community Newspaper in Calif.
Neal Pattison has been named executive editor at the Herald in Everett, Wash., effective Oct. 29. He had previously worked at The Spokesman-Review in Spokane. He succeeds Stan Strick, who is retiring.
Lauri Lockwood has been named editor of The California in Temecula.
Mae Cheng has been named executive editor of amNewYork and Diane Goldie has been named editor in chief for Tribune New York publishing and interactive, overseeing amNew York and amNY.com.
Matt Francis has been appointed executive editor at the Messenger Inquirer in Owensboro, Ky. He succeeds Dan Heckel.
Zoran Basich, managing editor of The Examiner.San Francisco will be leaving the newspaper in October.
Jim Paynard has been named senior managing editor of The Bulletin in Philadelphia. He served as a reporter for the Philadelphia Evening Bulletin and was editor of the Delaware Today magazine.
In sadder news, we lost, Bill Boyle, senior managing editor, Daily News, New York, John Scott Peters, reporter/editor The Modesto (Calif.) Bee; Robert H. Johnson, former Associated Press executive and bureau chief, who filed the first dispatch about President Kennedy being shot; Henry Keezing, retired editor of The Herald of New Britain, Conn.; and Paul McClung, an award-winning journalist and north Texas cattleman.
